So it is no secret that the Utah Jazz need a PG. And it’s probably no secret that they are looking very closely at all the PG’s in a PG deep draft. Now even though the draft is deep at PG there still are no sure things or “must have” prospects at the position. Even Trey Burke the top rated PG on most experts boards don’t have him as that must have or can’t pass prospect.

This is why i want the Jazz to take a chance on Dennis Schroeder. Schroeder is a 6’2 PG from Germany. He has been relatively unknown to the public until he tore it up at the Nike Hoops Summit. check the game out here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MtrJ3kWJVz0

Schroeder is fast and from what iv’e seen he can transfer that speed into pretty good defense which is something the Jazz desperately need. He has been compared to Rondo, which definitely is not a bad thing, but Schroeder can shoot and shoot the 3, unlike Rondo. He can also pass and seems to look to pass which is something the jazz need. They need a PG that can put the Jazz players in their spots and set up the young Bigs; Enes Kanter and Derrick Favors, he will be able to help their development by setting them up and getting them easy shots. Plus Schroeder said he wants to play here and thinks he will get picked at 14 by the Jazz or 15 by the Bucks.

There are also reports that Schroeder has a promise from a team in the first round. Could that be Jazz?…It seems likely that it could be them because usually only teams with multiple picks make promises.

Trey Burke burst onto the scene in March during the NCAA tournament. Anyone who follows college basketball probably already knew about Burke because he looked to be a lottery pick but everyone else who only tunes in for March Madness found out real quick that this kid is the real deal. I was a fan of Burke before the tournament hit and thought he would go somewhere fairly close to where the Jazz were picking at 14. The tournament changed everything. Burke not only was able to take over games by scoring and hitting insane jump shots that have no business going in but he also was unselfish and distributed the ball to his teammates. I don’t think you can ask more of a point guard then how Trey Burke performed in that tournament which is exactly why he is now projected as a top 5 pick in the draft this June. Here’s my analyses on Burke’s game. I’ve listed pros and cons, understand that the pros are definitely going to outweigh the cons of this player.

Pros

-Great Ball handler who sees the floor well

-Court general who distributes and sets up his teammates well

-Great assist to turnover ratio

-Has the ability to beat anyone off the dribble and get to the hoop

-Above average shooter and can shoot from anywhere on the floor

-Looks to be a leader and wants to have the ball in his hands during tight games

Cons

-A little bit undersized that some bigger NBA point guards might try to take advantage of

Worst Case

Jarrett Jack

Best Case

Chris Paul

Below I’ve included a video of Trey being interviewed at the NBA Combine.

Work ethic seems to be everything for this guy. If he gets in the gym and works hard on his game I can see him being a Chris Paul like player. He has the ability to take over games but also distributes the ball at a high level. It’s hard to tell what kind of player he will be before he reaches the NBA but if he has the right attitude and gets in the gym and puts in the time the sky is the limit for this kid. I see him as a serious rookie of the year candidate and a future all-star and the best point guard to come out of this draft.
