The 2017 NBA Dunk Contest will take place on Saturday. Looking back to five years ago, former Utah Jazz forward Jeremy Evans impressed everyone with his high-flying ability, taking home the trophy.

Utah Jazz forward Jeremy Evans, along with Paul George, Chase Budinger and Derrick Williams, were the participants in the 2012 Dunk Contest. Evans, who was in his second year in the league, was a bit of an unknown heading into the competition. However, he walked out of Orlando as the dunk champion, and people surely knew who he was then.

During his time in Utah, Evans was always very fun to watch. He played 219 games with the Jazz, averaging 3.7 points and 2.7 rebounds per game. But it was the Dunk Contest where he shined brightest of all.

Evans had the best dunk of the c’12 competition in my opinion, jumping over teammate Gordon Hayward and dunking two balls. He also dunked over Kevin Hart while sporting a Karl Malone throwback jersey, which is what got him the win. Evans finished with 29 percent of the votes.

The second-round pick from Western Kentucky would defend his dunk title the next year, but lost in the final round to Terrence Ross. His most notable dunk in 2013 was his left-handed windmill over a painting of himself. After the slam, he signed the painting.

Evans’ high-flying ability always excited Jazz fans. He spent five years with the organization, and spent one year with the Dallas Mavericks in the 2015-16 season. The Indiana Pacers traded for Evans that offseason, but he was waived before the season began.

The former Jazzman currently plays for BC Khimki, a Russian club.

The Jazz will be well represented this weekend at the 2017 All-Star event in New Orleans. Gordon Hayward will play in the All-Star game, as well as the Skills Challenge. Meanwhile, both Trey Lyles and Dante Exum will play for Team World in the Rising Stars Challenge.

It’s going to be very exciting to see some Jazz players getting some national recognition.
