Free agents Jabari Brown and Richard Solomon were in Salt Lake City this week for workouts with the Utah Jazz.

September is in full-swing, meaning NBA training camps are just a few, short weeks away. As such, Utah Jazz players have returned to Salt Lake City for open gym and to begin preparations for the 2016-17 season. However, they’re not the only ballers who have been in town.

Jazz decision makers have been working out free agents in recent days and two more were in the house earlier this week. Namely former Los Angeles Lakers guard Jabari Brown and power forward Richard Solomon, who played for Toyota Alvark Tokyo of Japan’s National Basketball League last season.

While the Jazz have a roster laden with guaranteed contracts and nary a spot to be had, these workouts provide the team with valuable player intel as GM Dennis Lindsey looks for that next diamond in the rough.

The duo could also be under consideration for spots on the team’s D-League affiliate, the Salt Lake City Stars. In any event, it’s unlikely that either will find themselves with the Jazz this season.

Brown, who played his college ball at Missouri, has split time between the Los Angeles Lakers and the D-League’s D-Fenders for parts of the last two seasons. He also played in 27 games with the Foshan Long-Lions last year.

Most recently, he played for the Lakers summer league team in Las Vegas.

His NBA experience was brief, but the athletic 6-foot-5 wing was an effective scorer when he got the chance. In 19 career games (five starts) in the league, Brown averaged 11.9 points and just under two rebounds in 29.9 minutes per game. He also made better than 37 percent of his three-point attempts.

As for Solomon, the former Cal big man was previously with the Oklahoma City Thunder just before the 2014-15 season. He has also had summer league stints with OKC, and the Phoenix Suns, in addition to his overseas experience.

The Jazz held workouts with Henry Sims and Jermaine Taylor last week.
