Few Thoughts on USA Basketball

Paul George’s gruesome injury was not good for the future of USA basketball.  Although it was the first major injury a player has occurred, the future of USA basketball with NBA players is in serious doubt.  There is something about representing your country that hopefully will be enough to get the star players to come back.  However, money talks and losing out on a future can really say a lot.

Days after Kevin Durant dropped out saying his mind just isn’t in it this year and it’s not fair to the other guys.  He said he also hopes to play for the USA in the future.  Do I believe him?  Sort of, but really it’s about the risk each player takes on.  Can guys like me or you blame him?  No not really, but then again I don’t think the guys today are in the same mental state that guys in the 80′s and 90′s were in.  The Dream Team was the best of the best.  Nobody dropped out due to fatigue or fear of injury.  That says a lot about today’s game compared to the past.

In my mind these players don’t compare to the likes of Larry Bird, Magic Johnson and Michael Jordan along with the other guys on the Dream Teams.  No Lebron, no Durant, no Love, no Melo…. Sad to see this happening and I get it.  However it’s not right and it’s kind of pathetic of today’s “stars”.  I have little respect for them and as far as them being idols of children and men is laughable.
