Rumor has it the Utah Jazz have made Pau Gasol their number one free agent they are after this off-season. Pau is no stranger to Jazz fans as he continually tore down the hopes of Utah year after year as the Laker bigs dominated what the Jazz had. In fact, the Lakers are the reason why KOC went with the deal to obtain Derrick Favors and then draft Enes Kanter a few months later. The Jazz wanted to resemble what had stopped their run it seemed like every year since the 07-08 season.
Bringing Pau Gasol in makes a lot of sense for the Jazz but maybe not a lot of sense for Pau. Pau is 33 years old and has 2-4 good years left in him. If he is the competitor which I think he is I ultimately think he joins a contender and possibly joins up with his brother in Memphis. Now if Pau wants a pay day then the Jazz can give him more money than just about everyone.
You might be asking yourself why the Jazz would want him. I think it comes down to three things starting with the veteran presence every team needs. He would have the knowledge of the game that the guys on this team needs. Much like what Richard Jefferson did this past year Pau would do for everyone, but mainly the bigs. His ability to spread the floor with his size is what I think the Jazz want in Kanter moving forward. If Kanter can have a year or two behind Pau I think it would exponentially help his career out.
Do the Jazz have what they need to lure Pau Gasol? I don’t think so, but I’ve seen crazier things happen.
