Today, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver announced that Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling would be banned for life from the NBA.
Effective immediately, Sterling is not allowed at any NBA basketball games. He also cannot be allowed in the Clippers facilities or have any interaction with business or player personnel decision making. In addition to the ban, Sterling is being fined $2.5 Million, which is the maximum amount by the NBA.
Commissioner Silver is pushing the NBA owners to push to force Sterling to sell the Clippers organization, which Silver says he is confident he has full support of.

As soon as the announcement was made, a flood of support came rolling in for Commissioner Silver’s decision. Here are some of the tweets that were sent out from players and owners alike.

I commend commissioner Adam Silver for making the right move. Players it’s time for us to come together and change the league. #NBA
Applaud Adam Silver for his stance! #progress
The list keeps going with more and more support for Commissioner Silver and his decision for the ban on Sterling.
The ban that Silver put on Sterling today did a lot for the NBA. It proved that this is an issue that the NBA doesn’t take lightly and will not stand for. It also proved, by the outpouring support, that this is something that people as a whole don’t take lightly, black or white. It also proved that only 88 days into his term as NBA Commissioner, that you don’t mess with Adam Silver.
The views expressed by Mr. Sterling are deeply offensive and hurtful. I am extremely proud of this great league’s diverse, respectful, and inclusive culture, and we will not allow one individual’s intolerant views to define us. Let me be clear: Mr Sterling’s views have no place in the NBA.
