NBA Draft: Utah Jazz Chance At Top Three Pick

After the Jazz loss last night to the Los Angeles Lakers, the Jazz moved into sole possession of the fourth worst record in the league. Currently, this is what the bottom of the league standings look like.

30. Milwaukee Bucks

29. Philadelphia 76ers

28. Orlando Magic

27. Utah Jazz

26. Boston Celtics

25. Los Angeles Lakers

As much as everyone made last night’s game into a “must lose” situation for the Jazz, the Jazz’s chance at a top three pick in the draft is still not a for sure thing. In fact, even if they end up with the fourth worst record, more than likely the Jazz will have the fifth pick in the draft.

Every season when it comes to the lottery, there is a team that usually jumps into the top three that wasn’t supposed to be there. If the Jazz finish with the fourth worst record, no team in NBA history has every won the lottery in that position. The reason I say that Jazz fans should still be nervous is because, as much as they improved their chances last night at more ping pong balls, they still are not guaranteed anything.

The Bucks have the best odds right now with a 25.0% chance at landing the number one pick. When you look at the Jazz, they have a 11.9% chance of landing that number one pick. However, I feel like it is more important to look at the odds of landing a top three pick because that is more of a concern that Jazz fans should have.

30. Milwaukee Bucks - 64.3% chance at top three pick

29. Philadelphia 76ers – 55.8% chance at top three pick

28. Orlando Magic – 46.9% chance at top three pick

27. Utah Jazz – 37.8% chance at top three pick

26. Boston Celtics – 29.1% chance at top three pick

25. Los Angeles Lakers – 21.5% chance at top three pick

If you are looking at specifically the Lakers chances, you think, 21.5% chance isn’t that good. However, the Jazz’s chances might be better, but not a lot better. There is always a chance that jumping the Jazz is a distinct possibility.

I’m not saying that Jazz fans should plan on getting jumped, possibly by the Lakers, in the draft. However, I’m not saying that Jazz fans should plan on moving up either. There is still many possibilities that this draft could end up going the wrong way for the Jazz. I get pretty nervous thinking that we have to wait until May to find out our fate. Hopefully, things will work out for the Jazz and Jazz fans alike!
