Rookie of the Year : Trey Burke

This race is about the same as the Coach of the Year spill on Corbin. Trey is obviously our best rookie, but he is also one of the best rookies in the league. Trey, right now, is one of the front runners for Rookie of the Year for the league. It is well deserving to get that recognition based on what he has done for the Jazz this season.

Trey, like everyone knows, was injured the first 12 games of the season. All the Jazz did in those 12 games was go 1-11 and had the worst scoring offense in the NBA. Trey came back and has really turned things around. Since Trey has been the starting point guard, the Jazz are 18-20.

Trey, like most rookies, plays much better at home than he does on the road. At home, Trey is putting up 13.4 points and 5.3 assists per game, while shooting 39.0% from the field and 37.8% from beyond the arc. That has resulted in a 11-9 record at home for Trey.

Trey won’t get a break during All-Star weekend like the other Jazz players. Trey was selected to play in the BBVA Rising Stars Challenge on Friday, February 14th. The game features the best rookies and second year players in the NBA. Not only will he be featured in that game, but Trey will also represent the Jazz in All-Star Saturday Night, as he will participate in the Taco Bell Skills Challenge. The challenge is designed for mainly point guards to show off dribbling and passing skills, as well as shoot the ball once or twice.

Trey has the tools to become one of the better young point guards in the league. He will always be criticized for his size, but he makes up for that with his confidence and determination to be the best. Trey is a key piece in what the Jazz are trying to do, and so far, he looks to be delivering for the Jazz.
