The Jazz offered Derrick Favors an extension of 4 years roughly $48 million dollars and Derrick accepted. To Derrick’s credibility, he was the one that told his agent to just get a deal done. And what a deal that was for both sides.
The Jazz get a big for less than max that let’s be honest would have gotten a max deal from somebody and because of that they will be able to keep the guys they want together for as long as both sides find an agreement. Derrick in return gets a deal that at the first of the season some argued was “too big” but also gets what he has always wanted… a home. Now that he knows for sure the Jazz want him and he knows he is going to start and get minutes he produces at an extremely high rate.
Derrick is tied for 11th in rebounds in the league at just under 10 a game, 6th in overall rebounds, top 50 in fg%, 16th in double doubles, 20th in blocks, 22nd in steals, and 49th in ppg.
What’s even more impressive is since the return of Trey Burke Derrick is shooting 58% averaging 15 and 10 a game. He is also shooting 75% from the line and in the last three games been an impressive +30 on the court.
Dennis Lindsey says he compares Favors to Joakim Noah and so far Derrick has been the dominant one of the two:
Favors is averaging 4.3 more points per game, 1.5 rebounds, .4 blocks, .4 steals, and shooting 5% better than Joakim in roughly the same amount of minutes. The other thing is Favors will be making less than Joakim over the next two years once his extension kicks in.
I’d say the Jazz got a steal. In fact I’d even say Derrick is playing the best overall on the Jazz and has been all season. This is great news for those of you who doubted or were on the bubble about Favors. All I know is I am 100% happy to have Derrick Favors on this team for long term. Keep it up Derrick!!
