Alec Burks...

Alec Burks is a fan favorite, the fans love his athleticism and play making ability.  Fans love the crazy layups he makes, and the high flying dunks he makes.  At times Alec Burks looks like the best player on the Jazz team.  Game one in the preseason he goes 6/10 from the court with 14 pts, 3 rebs, and 4 asts.  Solid numbers coming off the bench in the 6th man role.  After watching this game one starts to think man this kid is special, he was getting to the hoop with ease, scoring and creating for his teammates it was fun to watch.

The next game against the Balzers Alec goes 1-5 from the court looks disengaged with the starters and is kinda meh.  Then you start to think can Alec play with the starters?  does he have to have the ball in his hands to be successful?  If so does he have to come off the bench so that this is possible?  The next game in a blowout loss to the Clippers where everyone on the Jazz looked awful Alec goes 4-9 from the court with 12 pts and was the only person doing anything in the first half.  Not great but able to do something on a night when the whole team was atrociously bad. This gives you hope, maybe he is good enough to play well even with no help maybe he’ll be able to keep us in games.

Then in the latest game played on Wednesday against the Clipper, a game where the Jazz as a team played fairly well, Alec goes 1-13 from the field and does nothing in other statistical categories.  In a 7 pt loss someone going 1-13 is killer, had he got free throws that would have helped but he ended up with only 4 pts.  In comparison Hayward went 5-16 shooting, not great, but finished with 20 pts so more pts than attempts because he was able to get to the free throw line.

It is clear that Jazz need Alec Burks to play well in order to win.  It’s going to be fun to see if Alec can be consistent this year and give us that scoring, weather it be from the bench or a starting role, that we need in order to be competitive in games this year.
