It’s always been said that the NBA is a tough place for rookies and even more so for point guards. Rookies come in and have to match up against Derrick Rose, Russell Westbrook, Chris Paul, Tony Parker, Deron Williams, Rajon Rondo, Steve Nash and others. This year though has been unlucky for rookie point guards and the season hasn’t even started yet.
After being drafted by the Hawks and then traded to the Mavericks Larkin looked like he could be the main guy or close to it in Dallas. Then the Mavs brought in Jose Calderon and Devin Harris and who knows if Larkin was going to get minutes. Then even more devastating news came for Shane as he broke his ankle in Summer league. Shane had surgery and is expected back by the start of the season.
After lighting it up in Summer league, CJ looked poised to help Damian and the Blazers get back to the playoffs. Just recently however, CJ broke his foot that will require surgery and he will be out indefinitely. His expected return is 3-4 months.
Just last night in a preseason matchup against the Clippers, Trey left the game after fracturing his finger. The Jazz will know more on Monday and whether or not it will require surgery. Trey will most likely miss 4-6 weeks putting a damper on a highly sought after season of the “core 5″ by Jazz fans. Corbin said they will look at the guys they have and also their scouts will show them some guys. Marc Stein also reported the Jazz might be interested in Marquis Teague.
Before even a game has been played, 3 of the 5 point guards have missed 1+ months. Hopefully this isn’t a recurring theme for this draft class.
