Media day was yesterday, and I for one, could not be more excited for this group of young guys. Yesterdays media day let me hear a lot of good things from a lot of different players. One player in particular that I liked hearing from was Derrick Favors.
Derrick sounds confident. According to an interview yesterday afternoon with 1280 The Zone, David Locke said that Favors sounds “pissed off”, referring to being kept on the bench for 2 seasons and is ready to prove his worth.
During Favors interview with Locke, the two talked about Favors working with Karl Malone. Locke told Favors, “My favorite part was him yelling at you. WHATS YOUR GO TO MOVE? WHATS YOUR GO TO MOVE?” A lot of us would like to know that as well, because once Favors can develop a go to move, he is going to be pretty hard to stop offensively. Favors reply was, “right now my go to move is just scoring the basketball.” Just scoring the basketball is nice to hear, but he needs to have a go to move. If he doesn’t, I think he might have a hard time just “scoring the basketball.”
Malone also taught him that you need to come into camp in the best possible shape you can. That way you can come in to camp and be ready to take your game to another level. That being said, when Favors played in the Team USA camp in Vegas earlier this summer, media said that Favors looked like he had added muscle then. Looking at him during media day, to me, it seems pretty evident that he has added muscle to his frame. If Favors is in that good of shape and can “take his game to another level,” it will help the development of this young team immensely.
Another note is that, this off season, Favors bought a house in Salt Lake City. Also, Dennis Lindsey said that the Jazz are working with Favors and also Hayward’s agents, to get a contract extension done. Hopefully this all means that Favors plans on being in Utah for a while.
As mentioned before, to me, Favors sounds confident. He sounds ready to get the season started and sounds like he is ready to prove to everyone that he can dominate. I sure hope everything comes together like I think everyone believes it can.
