Utah Jazz: What I Need To See

I’ve watched almost every Jazz game in my entire life and probably been to the Delta Center/Energy Solutions Arena roughly 300 times over the course of 20 years.  I’ve seen many ups and downs as you all have as well I’m sure.  This year is different than any other year to me but probably is closest in dynamic to the Jazz team post Stockton and Malone.  This year I will be looking for 5 things that I expect and want to happen.

5 Alec Burks needs to become a threat.

He has talent on both ends of the floor and his ability to attack the rim is Dwayne Wade like.  If he is given the time he has all-star ability but he needs to realize that and play to his strengths.

4 Coach Corbin needs to step up

I’m not as big on bashing Corbin as most fans have been because I really don’t think he deserves it.  He’s handled every situation about as well as you can within a sticky situation.  That being said defense, substitutions and communicating to his players their roles are a must this year or I might jump on the fire Corbin bandwagon.

3 Favors needs to be vocal

Derrick has always been one of those players to me that his personality doesn’t quite fit his game.  He’s a keep your head down and be humble guy which is great but then when he gets on the court he’s a beast, a very quiet beast that is.  This year more than any other Derrick needs to be yelling out every play and directing the defense such does Tyson Chandler of the Knicks.  If Favors can do this then I think he is worth a huge contract extension but if not then I’m not sure what to pay the guy.

2 Trey Burke needs to make people forget about Summer league

Me and my roommates had a conversation (an argument) about Trey Burke and one thing they kept saying over and over again is they are sick of people saying Trey will suck before playing a single game.  Too many people are down on Burke because of the Summer league but with 4 months from the league to the season people have to talk about something.  I don’t think Burke is anywhere near as bad as he was in Summer league (especially shooting) so a good game or two right off the bat will be very encouraging for fans.

1 Gordon Hayward needs to prove he is elite

2k14 gives him no credit, the media gives him no credit but their is a reason why the Black Mamba himself said Hayward was a very good player and that is because he can do everything.  If Paul George is really being talked about like he is a top 10 player in this league then there is no reason Gordon Hayward can’t do the same.  Again per 36 they are almost identical stat wise and now they both the head guy of their respective teams.  Expect Hayward to prove the doubters wrong… again.
