Yesterday ESPN said that the Jazz could be really bad this next season. They listed off 6 really awful teams and said the Jazz could be worse than all of them except probably Philly. They did however mention that we have a bright future with our core of Burke, Hayward, Favors and Kanter… yeah no Burks.
Obviously if the Jazz miss the playoffs they are technically contenders for Wiggins just based on the lottery. Based on what ESPN is saying though is that Jazz could very likely have the second worst record in the NBA this season. Just to give you an idea of what that means from the past few seasons: 21, 20, 19, 15, 19, 15. That’s the number of wins the second to worst team has had for the past 6 seasons. That’s less than half the games the team plays at home with no wins on the road!
Is it possible? No, no, no, no, no! Yes they are young, yes their bench is lead by 2 guys coming off injuries and yes they have less than 150 starts between the 5 of them (103 from Hayward). It’s Salt Lake though and teams have a disadvantage here because the crowd is right on top of you and the altitude.
Besides that though this team will win games defensively just like Memphis does. They are too good at defense not to have chances in most games. Winning only 20 games during the entire season would be extremely hard to do for any team. The Bobcats won 21 games last year! The BOBCATS!? The team the Jazz beat by 30 points without Al Jefferson, Paul Millsap or Mo Williams.
Yes the Jazz are in the West which is a much tougher conference but you’re telling me that the Jazz will barely get wins against Philly twice and the non playoff teams at home which would give them 20 wins exactly. I’m sorry but if that’s what the media is expecting out of the Jazz Coach Corbin is gonna be coach of the year just by default by winning games apparently they should lose.
Not gonna happen ESPN, not gonna happen. So is Andrew Wiggins a possibility? Yes if 6% counts as a contender. No if you’re expecting the Jazz to win only 20 games. Absolutely not!
