Every day during the summer reminds me of how much I love the NFL, college football and basketball, but most importantly the Utah Jazz and NBA basketball. Baseball, although a great American past-time, just doesn’t do it for me. To put it simply I’d rather be working… there i said it! Whew, that felt good!
So now go ahead and close your eyes (keep them open or you won’t be able to read it) and let me describe this glorious next scene…
20 seconds left in the game Jazz down by 1 at home against the Thunder. Thunder ball with 14 seconds on the shot clock, ball is passed in to Russell Westbrook who immediately finds Kevin Durant above the three point line. Crowd yelling defense at the top of their lungs. Gordon Hayward up tight on Durant, Durant crosses over as Ibaka sets a pick on Hayward and rolls out. Kanter moves over to cut off Durant which he then passes to a rolling Ibaka for what looks like (and has been the past three years) a wide open dunk. Favors sees Kanter pick up Durant and rolls over and meets Ibaka at the rim and swats the ball away. Crowd goes crazy!
7 seconds left Alec Burks picks up the blocked ball and outlets it to Trey Burke as the Jazz have numbers. Trey passes the ball up to his right to Hayward right as Westbrook steps in front of Burke. Durant gets back to contest Hayward at the rim as Hayward swing the ball back to a trailing Kanter who skies up and dunks it through right before the buzzer sounds! Jazz win! Jazz win! Crowd jumping up and down yelling like they haven’t seen anything that entertaining forever.
Meanwhile the 7 year old kid, that’s a huge Jazz fan, is up in row 22 of the upper bowl and witnessed the whole thing on a LED high definition screen the size of a blue whale! Everybody wins! (except the Thunder)
That’s my summer dream: defense with guys switching and picking up the pick and roll, young guys all playing at the end of the game and me being there to witness the start of the core that will bring us excitement over the next 7-10 years.
