Utah Jazz: Who’s Backup PG?

After moving up and drafting Trey Burke I was curious as I’m sure most fans were to which point guard the Jazz would go after in free agency.  Wasn’t sure if they’d go after a starter like possibly Jarret Jack or Mo Williams, or if they’d go after a backup for Burke.  Here we are 8 days into free agency and we still don’t know what Dennis Lindsey is going to do with regards to that position.  We can speculate the Trey Burke will start because it’s a rebuilding year and he might as well gain experience on the floor.  The one thing we do know for sure is the list of available point guards has gotten a lot smaller over the past week.

So let’s play GM for 2 minutes and figure out who the Jazz want..

Most Obvious Answer:

Jazz talked to Jamaal Tinsley’s agent the night free agency opened up meaning they probably have interest in resigning him to be a mentor to Trey Burke.  Jamaal wants to come back and hasn’t committed to anyone even though their are a few teams rumored to have interest in him.  The other guy that has a team option is already on the roster in Jerel McNeal that could possibly backup Burke which would definitely tell us that Burke will be getting major minutes this next season.  Rookie of the year, here he comes!

Reaching and Doubtful:

The Jazz resign Mo Williams to start and to show Burke the ropes.

Really Reaching but One Can Dream:

The Jazz trade for Jimmer Fredette and have him play backup to Burke.  He will put people in the stands and he will get minutes which he has not had the chance to do at this point in his career.  The Kings are shopping him so there is a chance.

Logical Backup:

Here’s a list of 5 the Jazz might have interest in and would be solid backups this year..

1. Daniel Gibson

2. DJ Augustin

3. Will Bynum

4. Aaron Brooks

5. Derek Fisher… (100% joking)

5. Rodrigue Beaubois

My choice: Beaubois
