Mock Draft 2013 : picks 1-5

Here is my one and only mock draft.  I did this as if every team was picking from their spot, I will have no trade scenarios.  I did the mock on what I believe teams should do based on what I think their needs are.  So here we go:

1. Cleveland:  The Cavs are pretty much set at pg with Kyrie Irving becoming one of the best in the league at the position.  A lot of Cleveland fans don’t like Dion Waiters, but he was a spark plug off the bench averaging 14 pts a game in just his rookie season, and hopefully he can grow into the starter at the 2.  The Cavs have used recent low draft picks on F-C Tyler Zeller and F Tristan Thompson.  Thompson was averaging almost a double double with 11 pts and 9.8 rebs a game in 31 minutes of game time. Tyler Zeller has been less than impressive in his time thus far and could be finding himself even more so on the bench.  Anderson Varejao is always solid, but always seems to be hurt.

THE PICK: Nerlens Noel:

COLLEGE: Kentucky

AGE: 18
HT: 7-0
WT: 206

The Cavs aren’t sold on either Thompson or Zeller and pick the shot blocking phenom to hopefully hold down the front court for years to come.

2. Orlando: The Magic have a good young forward in Tobias Harris who averaged 17 pts per game for Orlando.  Before that he only averaged 4.3 for the bucks. This just goes to show what some players can do when given time! (cough! cough! Corbin!!)  they have a good Center in Nicola Vucevic and really nothing after that.  Orlando needs anything.

THE PICK: Victor Oladipo

COLLEGE: Indiana

AGE: 20
HT: 6-4
WT: 213
Regarded as the safest pick in the draft he is athletic, can play defense and can get to the hoop. He might not be a perennial All-Star, but he will be able to help any team with stellar defense and physical play.
3.Washington: Great young back court with John Wall and Bradley Beal, now they need some strength up front.
THE PICK: Alex Len
COLLEGE: Maryland
AGE: 19
HT: 7-1
WT: 225
4. Charlotte: The Bobcats need everything and anything. Nuff said..
THE PICK:  Anthony Bennett
AGE: 20
HT: 6-8
WT: 240
Regarded as one of the safer picks by many experts.  The Bobcats need to hit a home run here, but they also need someone who can contribute; with no “home runs” in this draft and just a bunch of base hits, they go with Bennett
5. Phoenex Suns:  The Suns are a team in major rebuild mode.  They will probably go with the BPA here no matter what position it is.  The Suns love to run and hopefully there will be a guy to fit that mold.
THE PICK: Ben Mclemore
AGE: 20
HT: 6-5
WT: 189
With the athletic wing available the Suns don’t hesitate to call his name, hopefully he can give them a solid scoring threat that can get his own shot.
