Superman, well Superman Jr (Shaq will always be Superman) is known as the best big man in the game.  The media loves/hates him and we’ve heard nonstop for three years about where he’s going to end up.  I could care less where he goes because since 2011 I have thought of Derrick Favors as Dwight Howard.

Here’s a comparison to start:

               Derrick Favors                                                            Dwight Howard

6’11” 250 lbs                         Height/Weight                    6’11” 262 lbs

         7’4″                                Wingspan                           7’4.5″

           9’4″                          Standing Reach                       9’3.5″

         14.6                             Per 36 Min                             17.1

          11.2                            Rebounds Per 36                  12.4

        2.6                                  Blocks Per 36                        2.5

        1.3                                 Steals Per 36                          1.1

           68.8%                              Free Throw %                       49.2%

These numbers have been with Dwight as a focal point on his team where as Derrick Favors has yet to be “the guy” on a team yet.  This next year that should be different as the Jazz coaches have told Favors he needs to step up and be a leader now.  They envision him as a Tyson Chandler type player that will need to orchestrate the defense.

Not too many people have watched Favors play so when they hear this or read that he is comparable to Dwight Howard they laugh or mock it.  Here’s some highlights from Derrick Favors to show you a little of what he does against the Spurs:

Now that Karl Malone is coaching him and getting him into probably the best shape of his life, he will be even better.  Expect Favors to put up some serious numbers this next year as he gets the time to play.  Who needs Dwight Howard with an overpaid contract when you have Derrick Favors!!
