Dwight Howard is a Laker. FML.

It has been all of 10 minutes since I saw the news about the Dwight Howard trade to the hated Lakers. It’s the perfect time for me to make my first post to the site since the NBA Finals ended. I’ll make a conscious effort to censor out all the cuss words but if I let some slip through, I apologize. I’m not going over the particulars of the trade since the news will be all over the sports world and it’s easy to find elsewhere.

It has felt like this trade was going to happen somehow for a while now but what angers me most is that L.A. didn’t have to give up Pau Gasol. Assuming the details of the trade stands as it is now, the Lakers were able to swap Andrew Bynum for Dwight Howard straight up. I’m excluding whatever draft picks LAL will lose since really, do they care about the draft? No. All the free agents want to play there and they can get whatever they want, whenever they want. The Chris Paul fiasco was the exception, not the rule.

Just take a look at the Lakers’ starting five for next year and you’ll be angry too. Nash, Kobe, Artest, Pau, Dwight. 2 sure-fire HOF players and 2 who could get there someday as well. And Metta World Peace. Well, 4/5 being formidable is still infuriating.

It’s good to see that the lie of “competitive balance” was exposed for what it is only a year after the lockout. Why keep up the charade longer than necessary? The rich get richer, especially when it’s the Lakers. I was feeling really excited about the moves the Jazz made this offseason but now I just feel… drained. First Steve Nash, now Dwight Howard? One was bad enough. I know I’ll recover quickly, I’m too much of a die-hard fan not to, but for tonight my enthusiasm for the NBA took a serious blow.

Oh by the way, Denver just added Andre Iguodala. Yeah.
