Warriors Win Coin Toss, Likely to Keep Draft Pick

The NBA held a coin toss this afternoon to determine the lottery position of the Golden State Tankers, I mean Warriors, and Toronto Raptors, who tied for the 7th worst record in the league at 23-43. The Warriors won the toss, placing them at the 7 spot. Since their draft pick is top 7 protected, that means they have a 72.4% chance of keeping their draft pick. On May 30, Jazz fans will need to root for the Raptors, Pistons, Timberwolves, Blazers, Bucks, Suns, or Rockets to jump into the top 3, which would push the Warriors into the 8th position and force them to surrender their draft pick to Utah.

If the Warriors keep their pick, next year’s first round draft pick is top 6 protected. If GSW keeps that, the 2014 pick is also top 6 protected. If GSW keeps that as well, then the Jazz inherit the Warriors’ 2014 and 2016 2nd round picks.
