Will the Jazz Beat the Suns on Tuesday?

It’s Friday night. No Jazz games to watch. No GREAT NBA games to watch, either (other than, perhaps, San Antonio and LA, but who the hell cares about those guys), and since my 2K12 My Player Campaign continues to frustrate the crap out of me (I’m currently riding a five game losing streak, WTF – I can’t even win in a friggin video game) I figured the only rational thing to do was hold a poll based on a game that won’t happen until Tuesday.

Makes sense.

No disrespect to Orlando, who are a tepid 3-3 after Dwight “It’s All Me, Baby” Howard prematurely exited the season due to back (and coach) issues, but my focus remains fixed on the Phoenix match-up scheduled for Tuesday at 8:30 in the PM at Energy Solutions Arena.

The nationally televised game (on TNT methinks) will more or less determine which team gets the chance to get eliminated in the first round (to either OKC or San Antonio). I’ve already unleashed my opinion on the whole “gunning for the playoffs” routine – in short, Utah needs to at least make the first round if they want this season to go down as a successful one – so I’ll spare you of any unnecessary rants on my part. Suffice to say, Utah surpassed my expectations; and in so doing set up a game I simply cannot wait for (seriously, ask the wife – I was up last night pacing in the kitchen, making cat sounds while eating peanut butter and tuna casserole). I can hardly sit still or hold a thought in my head …

For that reason alone, I’m apt to give Utah a B+ on the season. Why not? They played their guts out and, despite some unfortunate road bumps along the way, put themselves in a decidedly unique position.

Utah has yet to beat Phoenix this year, but I feel confident our boys in purple and blue … okay, well blue, green and gold, will put together a surprise showing Tuesday night (call it fate, call it luck, call it karma). If Gordy and Harris continue their stellar 3-point shooting of late and if our interior defense can stop Nash from man-handling the paint, I think Utah has a bonefide shot at ousting the Suns.

What say you, Jazzfans?
