Lockout D-Day Arrives

NEW YORK– 8:30 a.m., team player reps (and other players) begin to arrive at the NBPA meeting. Among those present so far: Russel Westbrook, Andre Iguodala, Danny Granger, Shannon Brown, Ben Gordon, Tyson Chandler, Carmelo Anthony, and Kobe Bryant.

There has been an interesting use of Twitter to barrage players and owners alike, with David Stern’s and Adam Silver’s “twitter-view” last night and players’ tweets such as Greg Monroe’s: “Don’t believe the hype.”

Whether “not believing the hype” is meant to be taken positively or negatively, I know not. Personally, I haven’t heard any positive hype surrounding today’s meetings. I’ve heard a lot of cautionary statements and bleak forethoughts, though. So is Greg Monroe saying we can expect a deal? Or is he just spreading propaganda?

We have truly reached the do-or-die point for maintaining any kind of an NBA season. The general consensus is that players will not accept the deal. Although, Matt Harpring recently tweeted that some player reps are prepared to vote “yes” for their respective teams.

Today, we can expect to know how the rest of the labor negotiations will pan out.

Here at The J Notes, we will be following the labor talks closely. You can stay tuned for exclusive updates and comments from those close to the meetings.
