The Jazz will sorely miss blocks like this from AK47.

Utah Jazz: AK47 Out For 2-3 Weeks... Nooo!

Forget the Ric Flair references and having the opportunity to build character by having to face tough opponents en route to a possible NBA Championship.

What’s with all of the negativity you ask?

Well, it has just been reported that Andrei Kirilenko, who happens to be the team’s biggest energy boost and best defender, has just injured his calf further, and he will be missing 2-3 weeks.

This is terrible news for the Utah Jazz, as AK was slated to defend Carmelo Anthony, the Nuggets’ top option on offense. Of course, AK would not have been able to shut him down completely, but he did pose the best defensive threat to ‘Melo on the entire Jazz roster.

Now the Jazz will have to decide whether to put Wesley Matthews or CJ Miles on Carmelo. Either way, this is going to be a disastrous mismatch.

Suddenly, the playoffs which I was so excited for have become far less exciting.

And just for the record, John Hollinger, who had the Utah Jazz going to the Western Conference Finals, has changed his pick due to the Kirilenko injury. I guess people other than Jazz fans realize the importance of a healthy Andrei Kirilenko.

Here are some reactions from Jazz supporters on Twitter:

@sirkickyass – I certainly wish I had known about AK’s injury before dropping $2k to attend games 1 and 2 in Denver. Oooops.

@kevingraham1280 – Makes that Suns loss hurt even more.

@UtesFan89 – My day is ruined.

@UtahJazzBlitz – Luckily the Jazz have TONS of guys who can guard Carmelo, besides AK… I’m sure CJ and Wesley will shut him right down. :(

@prodigal_punk – Someone get AK a damn leg transplant. Can you say brittle?
