Williams To Play For Team USA

It has come out that arguably the best player in the NBA will not be joining Team USA for the FIBA world championships this summer. Because of free agency, dealing with an upcoming movie, and the overall hard work that it takes to be a mega superstar in today’s day-and-age, it looks like LeBron James will have to skip this summer’s basketball action in Turkey.

In addition to LeBron James, it is also a strong possibility that guys like Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, and Kobe Bryant will be missing the world’s as well.

However, one guy who will not be missing this summer’s games is the league’s best point guard, Deron Williams (unless an injury prevents him from doing so).

What that means, is that D-Will is going to have to step up and truly show everybody why he is regarded as the league’s top point guard by many. By having to play without some of the league’s elite players, Williams’ role is going to be that much bigger, and any success that he has will be that much more special.

This is especially true because Williams plays the point guard position. As a point guard, like a quarterback in football, it is Williams’ job to lead the team down the court, and it is his decision-making that will make or break the team. Also, it is his responsibility to get the team to play together as one unit and to get the most out of all of the pieces around him.

Of course, the FIBA world championships are a lot different from the NBA season in regards to the level of intensity and style of game that the guys will play. It is more of a fun atmosphere, and although each team wants to represent its country with pride, it is just not the same game as the NBA game.

Nonetheless, if Deron Williams goes out this summer and puts on a clinic en route to a gold medal, his stock will definitely rise amongst the basketball world. And as a fan of the Utah Jazz, I can’t help but be excited about that.

I see Deron Williams play on a consistent basis, and I feel like most people do not get that opportunity. He truly is a special and unique player, and I can’t wait for a larger audience to get to see what I see all the time. They are surely in for a treat.
