The Jazz Clinch, But The Beat Goes On

AUTHOR: Lee Tawil | IN: Analysis, Utah Jazz | COMMENTS: None Yet

With the loss by the Memphis Grizzlies last night, the Utah Jazz have officially clinched a playoff berth. Although the Jazz won the season series with the Grizz, 2-1, there were tie-break scenarios that could have occurred that would have possibly knocked out the Jazz had the two teams finished with the same record along with some other teams. However, that is no longer a concern.
Since the Grizzlies, who are in 9th place in the Western Conference, can win 47 games at most, and the Jazz already have 48 wins, the Jazz are guaranteed at least the 8th spot in [...]

Why Keeping Othyus Jeffers Is a Wondeful Move

AUTHOR: Lee Tawil | IN: Analysis, Utah Jazz | COMMENTS: None Yet

(Slam Online)
When Othyus Jeffers‘ second 10-day contract expired yesterday, he was unsure of what the future held for him with the Utah Jazz. In fact, there were reporters who were informed that he would be staying with the team for the remainder of the season before he was.
Although this method seems indecent to Jeffers, I see it a little differently.
This “secretive” method, in my opinion, is exactly why keeping a guy like Jeffers on the squad is a perfect move for the team: He doesn’t EXPECT a spot on the roster. Rather, he feels the need to EARN his keep [...]

Mehmet Okur Makes Jazz Fans “Throw Up” Their Hands

“Swish! And the Ray Allen 3 gives the Celtics a 54-42 lead, here in the second quarter.”
Those words seemed to spell disaster for the Utah Jazz, as it appeared that it was going to be a long night in front of the home crowd at ESA.
The refs were not making things look any brighter, as they continued to call ticky-tack fouls on the Jazz, and Carlos Boozer was in serious foul trouble with 3 in the first half.
At that point in the game, I was already imagining the clever news headline for the next day: “Refs Find [...]

Suns Or Thunder?, D-Will’s Chicken Dance, And Art In The NBA

AUTHOR: Lee Tawil | IN: LT'S Jazz Notes, Utah Jazz | COMMENTS: None Yet

- Following a loss to the Phoenix Suns, and a win against the Paul-less Hornets, the Utah Jazz are in a better position than I would have imagined. If you read my post on Friday, I explained why I thought that Friday night’s game with the Suns was the most important game of the season. However, even though they lost that game, things aren’t as bad as they could have been. Yes, they only have a 1-game advantage over those Suns, but the Jazz did get some help from other teams around the league (Mavs, Nuggets, Thunder) over the weekend. [...]

The Jazz Get Ready For The Biggest Game Of The Season

AUTHOR: Lee Tawil | IN: Analysis, Preview, Utah Jazz | COMMENTS: None Yet

(Point-Spreads.com)
If you were not aware, tonight’s game against the Phoenix Suns is going to be the biggest game of the season up to this point for the Utah Jazz. Not only is it the next game on a 14-game schedule, but it is against a Suns team that is battling with the Jazz for home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs.
The Jazz currently have a 2-0 season series lead over the Suns, and a win tonight will clinch the all-important head-to-head tiebreaker in favor of Utah. What this would mean is that if the Jazz and Suns finished [...]

Jazz-Wolves Recap, Injury Concerns, Fun Facts

AUTHOR: Lee Tawil | IN: LT'S Jazz Notes, Recap, Utah Jazz | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Utah Jazz blew out the Minnesota Timberwolves as I expected, but it was not all fun and games for the Jazz last night. Although they did get the victory, and they did get the revenge they wanted against the Wolves, some players left the game with unknown statuses for Friday’s game against the Phoenix Suns. And with the season entering its final stretch, this is the worst possible time to have multiple injury concerns, especially to your key players.
- First of all, Deron Williams, who entered the game already banged up, left the game because of a [...]

Happy Birthday Kyle Korver!

AUTHOR: Lee Tawil | IN: Jazz | COMMENTS: None Yet

Other than March 17th being significant for St. Patrick’s Day, this day is also the birthday of the NBA’s current leader in 3-point shooting percentage. That’s right! Today is Kyle Korver’s 29th birthday!
Hopefully, Korver can be energized by his birthday tonight, and he can help the Jazz blow out the Wolves, just like he will blow out the candles on his birthday cake!

Jazz Seek Revenge Against Wolves

AUTHOR: Lee Tawil | IN: LT'S Jazz Notes, Preview, Utah Jazz | COMMENTS: None Yet

One of the weirdest things about the Utah Jazz this season is that they are 1-2 against the Minnesota Timberwolves, who are the last place team in the Western Conference by 5 games. What’s even weirder is that Deron Williams had his season-high of 38 points in a loss to the T-Wolves. But those 2 losses came back in December, and the Jazz have clearly become a better team since that time. So how will the Jazz fare with the Wolves this time around?
- The first thing that sticks out to me is that the T-Wolves will be on the [...]

The Jazz Put A Spell On The Wizards

AUTHOR: Lee Tawil | IN: LT'S Jazz Notes, Recap, Utah Jazz | COMMENTS: None Yet

Phew! I hate to be honest, but I did not expect the Utah Jazz to destroy the Washington Wizards like they did. In fact, I am not even sure I expected the Jazz to win the game outright. They were on the back half of a back-to-back, and they were once again short-handed. Not to mention that their confidence might have been shaken because of their first losing streak in over 2 months. But, as the Jazz have done so many times in individual games this season, they bounced back and shook off the rust.
Let’s go to the notes.
- In [...]

LT’s Jazz Vs. Wizards Pre-Game Notes

AUTHOR: Lee Tawil | IN: LT'S Jazz Notes, Preview, Utah Jazz | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

(AP Photo/Nick Wass, Sue Ogrocki)
- The Utah Jazz will take on the Washington Wizards for the first of two meetings this season. In fact, the Wizards are the only team that the Jazz have not played yet this season.
- The last time these teams met was March 17th of last season, when the Jazz handled the Wiz at home by a score of 103-88. In that game, like this game, Gilbert Arenas was not active. The leading scorers in that contest for Washington were Juan Dixon and Nick Young who each scored 14. The Jazz were led by Kyle Korver [...]
