The Jazz Stay Put (Written Before Brewer Trade)

AUTHOR: Lee Tawil | IN: News | COMMENTS: None Yet |

Ronnie Brewer is headed to Memphis.

Well, the trade deadline has come and gone with the Jazz sitting idly by, watching other teams make trades in hopes of improving their present and future. The Jazz, though, seem content with the team that they presently have, and they are hoping that this is the team that can contend for a title this season. Past that is uncertain.

Although Utah did not make any moves, there were a few rumors flying around that the Miami Heat were interested in acquiring Carlos Boozer for some expiring contracts. This, though, would not have made any sense, as Boozer has an expiring contract himself. (Probably some made up nonsense just to cause a stir)

Outside of that little nonsense, the Jazz handled Thursday morning and afternoon like any other day, as they had a practice, and they did everything that was part of their normal routine.

Now, you might ask, “How could the Jazz not make a move? Are they really ready to hang with the Lakers in the Western Conference?”

The truth is, realistically, nobody can hang with the Lakers right now. They are simply too talented, and they have too much length. And plus, there was nobody that Utah could have acquired that would have made contending with the Lakers any easier.

With that being the case, I have to say that the Jazz did the right thing not making a move out of desperation. They are playing fantastic basketball right now, and there is no need to mess with that. If they are going to go far this season, it will be with the team that they have right now. Trading Boozer for Michael Beasley, or anything of that nature, only would have hurt this team this season.

With the season coming down the stretch, the Jazz need to focus on making the playoffs and continuing to improve their chemistry, which is already very good. Shaking things up, would have only made those tasks a lot harder to complete.

LT’S NOTES

- Just as I completed this post, I got word from Ross Siler via Twitter, that Ronnie Brewer was traded to Memphis for protected first round pick in 2011.

- As a side note, that was the first time I mentioned Ronnie Brewer’s name on this site.
