Would Big Z Fit In Utah?

AUTHOR: Lee Tawil | IN: Analysis, Utah Jazz | COMMENTS: None Yet

According to a report by Ross Siler in the Salt Lake Tribune, the Utah Jazz are showing interest in acquiring Zydrunas Ilgauskas to fill the empty roster spot left by Ronnie B. Here is my take on the possible acquisition.
Excluding Kosta Koufos, who hardly sniffs the court, the Utah Jazz only have one legitimate center who can patrol the paint defensively; Kyrylo Fesenko. Fesenko has come on as of late, and he has shown a bunch of ability, but he is hardly somebody that the Jazz can count on as the season winds down to the postseason. He barely has [...]

The Jazz Tame The ‘Cats

AUTHOR: Lee Tawil | IN: Recap, Utah Jazz | COMMENTS: None Yet

Coming into Utah’s match-up with the Charlotte Bobcats, I thought that the Jazz would suffer if they did not have the services of Andrei Kirilenko, specifically on the defensive side of the ball. Of course, the Jazz were without AK last night, and they did show signs of weakness through the first half, as they trailed Charlotte by 11 going into halftime.
Like I feared, the Bobcats killed the Jazz with the likes of Gerald Wallace and Stephen Jackson, who put up 18 points and 15 points respectively in the first half. It seemed that without Kirilenko, the Jazz just had [...]

Sizing Up The Unpredictable Bobcats

AUTHOR: Lee Tawil | IN: Analysis, Preview, Utah Jazz | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Jazz are hoping that Gerald Wallace is stuck on the bench for most of the game.
As the Utah Jazz come off of a hard-fought loss against the Atlanta Hawks on Monday night, they will be hosting the Charlotte Bobcats tonight at ESA.
With the status of Andrei Kirilenko still hanging in the balance, it is going to be difficult to predict an outcome, especially with the Bobcats’ versatile players (Stephen Jackson, Boris Diaw, Gerald Wallace).
Also, with the Bobcats’ unpredictability lately, you never know which team is going to show up. They have lost back-to-back games to the Clippers and Bucks, [...]

The Jazz Battle Despite Missing a Couple of Starters

AUTHOR: Lee Tawil | IN: Analysis, Recap, Utah Jazz | COMMENTS: None Yet

Ronnie Price filled in for the injured Deron Williams.
Due to a faulty internet connection, I was not able to post my reactions on the latest Utah Jazz game, when they lost to the Atlanta Hawks. Since there are some things I wanted to say about the game, I figured I would write them now. (Not the typical recap with stats and such. More about my thoughts on the game).
First of all, I want to give the Jazz a bunch of credit for hanging tough throughout this game. They were coming off of a draining overtime comeback against the Blazers 19 [...]

The Jazz Cap-Off Their Road Trip With An Astounding Comeback

AUTHOR: Lee Tawil | IN: Recap, Utah Jazz | COMMENTS: None Yet

Fes was instrumental in Utah’s amazing comeback.
Down 64-39 with 7 minutes left in the third quarter, the Utah Jazz were all but finished against the Blazers on Sunday night. “Well, you can’t win ‘em all. 3 out of 4 on the road trip isn’t something to hold head your down about,” I thought. “And plus, can you really count this game without AK and Okur?”
As I tried to comfort myself with reasons why this loss wouldn’t be so bad, it happened! The Utah Jazz actually clawed their way back into the ballgame, and they pulled out a 93-89 overtime victory, [...]

Who Is The True Leader of The Utah Jazz?

AUTHOR: Lee Tawil | IN: Analysis, Utah Jazz | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

For a while, I thought that Deron Williams was the unquestioned leader of the Utah Jazz. However, in light of recent events, I am beginning to question if that guy is in fact Carlos Boozer.
Following the trading of Ronnie Brewer, it was Deron Williams who reacted in an immature manner. He reminded me of a 4-year old kid who had just had his favorite toy taken away. He was outright annoyed that the Jazz sent away his “little brother” to Memphis, and he was clearly not in support of the move. In fact, he even went as far as saying [...]

Papa Memo Forces A Shift In The Lineup

AUTHOR: Lee Tawil | IN: News, Utah Jazz | COMMENTS: None Yet

While Memo spends time with his baby, the Jazz will try to get a win in Oakland.
Earlier this morning, Mehmet Okur’s wife, Yeliz, gave birth to her first son, Yigit. Yigit Mehmet Okur was born at a size of 21 inches and eight pounds, two ounces.
The baby is Okur’s second child, as he already has a daughter by the name of Melisa.
Because of the wonderful occasion, Okur had to fly back to Utah, and he will not be with the team tonight when they take on the Golden State Warriors in Oakland.
With Okur’s absence, and the recent departure of Ronnie [...]

My Thoughts On The Brewer Trade

AUTHOR: Lee Tawil | IN: Analysis, Utah Jazz | COMMENTS: None Yet

How will the Jazz fare without Ronnie Brewer?
With Ronnie Brewer off to Memphis, I thought it would be interesting to analyze how the move will affect the Jazz. Here it goes:
First of all, by replacing Brewer in the starting lineup with either Wesley Matthews, CJ Miles, or Kyle Korver, the Jazz will definitely be improving on the offensive side of the ball. Each one of these guys is not afraid to shoot the ball, and they can all hit a jump shot better than the often offensively-challenged Brewer could.
Specifically looking at Kyle Korver, I think that he helps improve Utah’s [...]
