For what it’s worth, the Utah Jazz are currently ranked number one in the Hollinger Power Rankings. These rankings are updated every day, and they are based on a specific formula developed by John Hollinger, who writes for ESPN Insider.
When you take a look at the teams that are just below them, you will see that they are all quality teams; meaning that the Hollinger formula is a pretty good barometer for measuring teams. Since that is the case, Utah fans have something to be very proud about.
Although the season is still relatively young, and the playoffs are a ways away, the Utah Jazz should be encouraged by their level of play lately, especially at EnergySolutions Arena. The Jazz have won 6 games in a row on their home court, and they are an impressive 18-6 overall at Utah.
When you look at their last 10 games overall, the Jazz are 8-2, which is the second best mark in the league to Denver’s 9-1 over that span.
In my opinion, a lot of Utah’s recent success has to do with Andrei Kirilenko’s addition to the starting lineup. He provides an alert defensive presence that the Jazz need to play at their best level, and he can score the basketball in bunches. A lot of the time, AK47 comes up with a steal, and he finishes on the other end with a dunk. It’s plays like that get the crowd roaring, and it is the reason why Utah is so tough to beat on their home court.
As long as the Jazz can keep up their recent style of play, and they can continue to close out games strongly as they have, they will remain near the top of the Hollinger Power Rankings for the rest of the season. Hopefully that will translate into a playoff berth by season’s end.
