The Boozer-Millsap Debate

AUTHOR: Lee Tawil | IN: Utah Jazz | COMMENTS: None Yet

According to Ross Siler of the Salt Lake Tribune, Carlos Boozer was at practice on Sunday morning in practice gear. And not only that, but Boozer did not dismiss the idea that he could play by the end of the week.
This is certainly great news to hear, especially with Boozer, who has the reputation of being a slow healer. There are Jazz fans, though, who are wishing that his history of being a slow healer continues with this current injury.
Lately, I have heard that people don’t feel the same way about Boozer as I do. A lot of people feel [...]

Millsap and Company Save The Day as Jazz Win 5th Straight

AUTHOR: Lee Tawil | IN: Jazz | COMMENTS: None Yet

Coming into Friday night’s game against the Sacramento Kings, the Utah Jazz were short 2 starters (Carlos Boozer and Deron Williams), but that didn’t prevent them from winning their 5th straight game and 9th out of their last 10 overall.
The player who stepped up the most for Utah in this game was forward, Paul Millsap. Millsap, who has always been a favorite of mine, had incredible numbers, as he scored 32 points, grabbed 14 rebounds, and dished out 7 assists. Numbers like that sound like a great night for LeBron James, so the performance was definitely much-appreciated by his Jazz [...]

Game 46: Sacramento Kings at Utah Jazz

AUTHOR: Lee Tawil | IN: Utah Jazz | COMMENTS: None Yet

Looking ahead to tonight’s game against the Sacramento Kings, the Utah Jazz might be in a little bit of trouble. Why? Because they will be without arguably their two best players, Deron Williams and Carlos Boozer.
Williams, who was just announced to his first All-Star Game, will be at a funeral in West Virginia, mourning the loss of his uncle. Boozer, who is walking on crutches as I write this post, will be sidelined for about 10 days because of a strained right calf, which he injured against Portland on an inbound pass.
That being said, the Jazz will need some contributions [...]

Deron Williams Finally Makes The All-Star Team

AUTHOR: Lee Tawil | IN: Utah Jazz | COMMENTS: None Yet

After finding out about Wesely Matthews‘ snub from the Rookie Challenge, the first person that came to mind was Deron Williams, who has been a constant snub from the All-Star Game for at least the last 3 seasons. Williams is a true leader, and he does everything that his team could ask of him. He always has his team contending with the top teams in the Western Conference, and he gives the Utah Jazz a legitimate chance to win it all in any given year.
Finally, this year it seems that all that hard work and production is paying off in [...]

The Jazz ‘Expose’ The Blazers Early And Cruise To 4th Straight Victory

AUTHOR: Lee Tawil | IN: Utah Jazz | COMMENTS: None Yet

Coming into their matchup with the Portland Trail Blazers, I expected the Utah Jazz to win the game because of the injuries that the Blazers are dealing with right now. However, I did not expect the Jazz to get off to a 37-16 lead after the first quarter!
In that first quarter, the Jazz were able to get many easy buckets, courtesy of Carlos Boozer (12 first quarter points) and Andrei Kirilenko (10 first quarter points). Both Boozer and Kirilenko gave the Blazers trouble near the basket because of their lack of an interior presence from guys like Greg [...]

Wesley Matthews Not Involved in Rookie Challenge… That’s Great!

AUTHOR: Lee Tawil | IN: Utah Jazz | COMMENTS: None Yet

It is no secret that Wesley Matthews has been very impressive as of late. Unfortunately, his play was not enough to get him selected to rookie roster of the Rookie Challenge; a game that takes place between rookies and sophomores during All-Star Weekend.
Although I think that Matthews does deserve to be a part of the rookie roster, I think it may be beneficial for him that he isn’t.
First of all, there is always the possibility of getting hurt. In games like these, players tend to play very differently than a regular season game. Because of that, sometimes players will do [...]

The Jazz Are On Top of The Hollinger Power Rankings

AUTHOR: Lee Tawil | IN: Utah Jazz | COMMENTS: None Yet

For what it’s worth, the Utah Jazz are currently ranked number one in the Hollinger Power Rankings. These rankings are updated every day, and they are based on a specific formula developed by John Hollinger, who writes for ESPN Insider.
When you take a look at the teams that are just below them, you will see that they are all quality teams; meaning that the Hollinger formula is a pretty good barometer for measuring teams. Since that is the case, Utah fans have something to be very proud about.
Although the season is still relatively young, and the playoffs are a ways [...]

The Jazz Close Out Phoenix With a 45-19 Run

AUTHOR: Lee Tawil | IN: Utah Jazz | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

After witnessing that spectacular comeback by the Utah Jazz, I can say I am proud to be a fan of this team. Where to begin?
First of all, Wesley Matthews played an incredible game. It seems like Jerry Sloan always finds a way to grab the guys who go unnoticed by the rest of the league. Matthews had a career-high 21 points in under 23 minutes, and he was instrumental in Utah’s late surge. Matthews scored 15 of his 21 points after the 2:28 mark in the third quarter, which is precisely the time that this game’s momentum shifted towards the [...]

Game 44: Phoenix Suns at Utah Jazz Game Preview

AUTHOR: Lee Tawil | IN: Utah Jazz | COMMENTS: None Yet

Following their 33-point thrashing of the New Jersey Nets, the Utah Jazz will be hosting the run n’ gun Phoenix Suns tonight at EnergySolutions Arena. This is the first of four season matchups between the two teams who are currently battling for playoff positions in the Western Conference.
The Suns, who lead the league in points per game, will look to get a quality performance out of recently-announced All-Star Steve Nash. Nash should have his hands full, as he will be going up against Deron Williams, who is a premiere point guard in the NBA in his own right. In my [...]

How an Eminem Song is Relevant to Sundiata Gaines

AUTHOR: Lee Tawil | IN: Utah Jazz | COMMENTS: None Yet

“Look, if you had one shot, or one opportunity to seize everything you ever wanted-One moment. Would you capture it or just let it slip?” Those words are from the famous Eminem song, “Lose Yourself.” Why am I bringing this up now? Because Sundiata Gaines possibly seized everything he ever wanted in just one moment, when he nailed that memorable game-winning 3-pointer against LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers earlier this month.
Due to his humongous shot, and some decent play since then, the Utah Jazz have signed the former D-Leaguer for the entire season. If Gaines can continue to play [...]
